Mt Amuyao Traverse Part 2

Mt Amuyao Traverse Part 2

continuation Mt Amuyao Part 1

PAT-YAY VILLAGE

We prepared our breakfast and equipped our gears as soon as 5:00 am and commenced our trek at exactly 5:30 am.

The sun was not shining as expected and the hope of a fine weather was interrupted by sudden squalls of the pouring rain.

Assaults welcomed us, mud as thick as 1 meter with heavy rain. The trail started on the rice terraces of Pat-yay, and up to one of the highest points of the ancient village.

The sun shined on our way up as we saw the reminisce of Pat-yay village and the
relaxing socials we had last night was still lingering, but the morning greeted us with rain, cold and exhaustion.

At exactly 7:30 am, we reached the first waiting shed and continue to push through until reaching the highest point of the trail, from there unlimited descend until we reached the view deck of Cambullo rice terraces at around 11:30 am.

The trail down to Cambullo was filled with mossy forest, thick vegetation and eroded parts, some parts were in total havoc and needed contortion skill before one could pass through. We even saw Poison Ivy's and other indigenous plants and berries that can only be found in this region.

on our way down to the mossy forest

We were already tired after reaching the first view deck at 11:30 am, we passed through some locals farming and paving the road with mud and obscure terrain due to the previous typhoon that struck the area.

Eventually, we took some time and captured the moments of the great scenery and architecture of Cambullo rice terraces, it was still a big question how the ancient cordilleran people built such structures that undoubtedly manifested their ingenuity and wisdom on the mountains.

some parts of the field were covered with grass

we enjoyed the running water from the river

                                                                       mineral water

The trek down to Cambullo village was the most crucial part of the whole traverse, It needed patience, balance, and timing. We trek up trails as wide as half feet with your left scenery, a 200 feet drop, and your right a muddy field with rice paddies.

The threat of casualty is eminent, the only way to move forward is to step forward with precise and accurate timing with a sense of cautiousness.

some parts were damaged from the previous typhoon

After 2 hours of our breathtaking trail with death-defying stunts, we reached one of the most beautiful viewpoints of Cambullo village.

                                                       the viewpoint is very enticing

From that viewpoint a relaxing hanging bridge to Cambullo and a cold soft drinks welcomed us, Gerald and Erika were already there 2 hours before we arrived.

refreshing view after the long trek

Cambullo village was not like Pat-yay it had some electricity and sari-sari stores, some of the ancient houses were converted to Guestroom for mountaineers or backpackers who wanted to stay there overnight.

We ate our lunch at 1.:30 pm and decided to continue our relentless trek to Batad Ifugao our exit point. We didn't waste time because we're 2 hours late on our itinerary.

CAMBULLO VILLAGE - BATAD IFUGAO

The trek to Batad from Cambullo was the most soothing part of the trail, with just 3km of distance, we've managed to accomplish the trek for just 2 hours.

the trail was well established compared to pat-yay - cambulo

We even had time to affiliate with the locals, they were warm and greeted us with enthusiasm.

It was already past 5:00 pm when we arrived in Batad Ifugao, the lingering exhaustion, and fatigue was replaced with satisfaction and pleasure just to add the beautiful scenery of Batad made us very delightful. We bid farewell to our guide who helped us for the past 3 days.

celebration!

the world famous Batad Rice Terrace

From there, an easy 30 minutes walk to our wash up area, we had our heavy snacks and hot chocos.

At 6:45 pm, after refreshing and changing our clothes we didn't expect that Batad saddle or the exit point was still an hour away so we trek for another hour.

We finally reached the extraction point at 8:05 pm after 52 hours of the challenging traverse since day 1,  but our legs were already worn out and weary. We felt like were wasted, and from there an hour chartered jeep to Banaue.

We had dinner in Banaue at 9:00 Pm and immediately departed to Manila at 10:00 pm

Mt Amuyao was really a test of strength and patience plus courage, we had times we felt we will never make it but our will tested our limits we gave it an 8/9 difficulty but it felt like 9/9 we will surely come back soon for the Reverse Traverse challenge.
